Independent living/skills building services are designed to assist children who are, or will be, transitioning to adulthood beginning at the age of 14 years old with support in acquiring, retaining, and improving self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills necessary to be successful in the domains of employment, housing, education, and community life, as well as to reside successfully in home and community settings. Independent living/skills building activities are provided in partnership with young children to help the youth arrange for the services they need to become employed and to access transportation, housing, and continuing education.
